Video: Portland's midnight Sam Adams toast

On New Year's Day, the last thing this writer wanted was a Sam Adams. Even though I do enjoy that line of beer, after my night of New Year's Eve drinking, the thought of consuming any kind of brewskie was about as appealing as seeing Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark mouth the lyrics to "Auld Lang Syne." By midnight I was over it, both the drinking and the ceremonial ball-dropping.

However, while I began my 12:01 A.M. Sam Adams swearing-off, Portland, Oregon was conducting a 12:01 Sam Adams swearing-in. And unlike his carb-laden, headache-inducing namesake, this openly gay Sam didn't make me want to vomit:

Gay mayors unapologetically smooching their partners: The cure for America's long, heterosexist hangover.

A very fun video to watch. I was wondering if that was his partner...glad he was there...and all were applauding. Will be watching for news on Monday.

That was great. Providence also has a gay mayor though no significant other at the moment. I do hear through the grapevine that he likes Domincans though.
