Video: After four decades of public life, Dobson still manages to go a little lower

by Jeremy Hooper

Add James Dobson to the ever-growing list of evangelicals willing to lie about sexual orientation in order to keep LGBT people more vulnerable to hate crimes:

We don't even know what to say anymore. They have proven themselves completely uncaring, both towards LGBT welfare and the truth. And it's clear that they have declared all-out war on us and all of our future gains. So what can you even say to those with fingers in their ears, fear-mongering in their mouths, and a startling willingness to ignore what their eyes can so clearly see?

Well we're not gonna say anything. We're instead going to ask them, clearly and directly: How can you sleep at night knowing the malicious fallacy that you are pushing for the sake of lucre? And how DARE you try to seize the moral high road from those who have transparently poured their hearts and minds out on these matters, when your movement has been defined by a one-sided, rhetorical firewall?

And even though they will never answer, we will still smile a sly smile. Because we know that they know. Whether deep down or more heart-sleeved, most of them are aware of what they are doing. And while they can (and surely will) continue to lie and exploit millions of people, they will never be able to lie to their consciences or exploit their own hidden shame for any sort of positive rewards. Long after this vote is cast and society is just a little more peaceful, they and their legacies will have to live with their unfortunate career choices for all of time.

That doesn't really comfort us to say, as we don't really like to see anyone in pain. But in this "culture war," they are constantly shooting bullets at our lives and loves. So if ir comes down to their desired goal (our elimination, sold as "conversion") versus or our own hopes for a "pro-family" karma bill that will eventually come due, they have left us with no choice but to choose the latter.

*Others who blatantly lie for the sake of political opportunism:

Focus on the Family
Liberty Counsel
The Traditional Values Coalition
Congressman Steve King (R-IA)
Concerned Women For America
American Family Association
Lafferty/Gohmert
Liberty Live

*Pedophilia is classified as a parahphilia. Here is what DSM IV-TR actually has to say about paraphilias, which are FULLY and CLEARLY separated from actual sexual orientations (homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality).

*Oh, and let's remember that the group who started this whole "there are 30 sexual orietnations" campaign is the Traditional Values Coalition, an SPLC-certified hate group. Not a crew towards whom we'd direct our family's focus, FOF!

Your thoughts

Ugh. Somebody light a match and blow up this hate-filled gasbag.

It is ironic that he talks about children not being able to make adult choices, yet they are happily able to label them Christian.

There used to be a cartoon with three monkeys sitting in a row. One with fingers in ears, one with hands over eyes and one with hands over mouth. They were labeled "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" This was supposed to represent some kind of vitrue. In thinking about it it seems more to me like the first two implied that you refused to see or ignore evil and the third was to don't say anything, although that did not seem to fit with the first two.
I think now the message should be changed to "Hear no truth, see no reality and speak only evil.

I think we need to start labeling these people as "pro-hate crimes." Remember when the Republican Party in the early '90's used to talk about Democrats being "soft on crime?" Portraying these pro-hate crime, anti-gay activists that way could be very effective. They are also pro-bullying when it comes to students in school.

Isn't Dobson Dead Yet?

It's more than a sly smile on my face; you see, what they know is that they will have to face their God one day and explain how they maligned, aided and abetted the hatred of God's children. And according to scripture...

If you're right, why would the Democrats object to amendments that would have simply confirmed what you're saying, i.e., that the bill would not give protection to pedophilia?

You can find that response here, GR:

Oh, and if you're going to give us your email (and therefore remove the shroud of anonymity), then next time please accurately identify yourself, Mr. Glenn

I wonder if James Dobson ever read the 9th Commandment? "Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor." That generally meant to be a prohibition against telling lies. I noticed a few in there.
