NY: Four dark rain clouds hellbent on shading equality's glorious rays

by Jeremy Hooper

Tony Perkins, Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr., Maggie Gallagher, and Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr.

No, that's not the invitee list for the world's most unenthusiastic bachelor party. It's the speaker list for an upcoming anti-marriage equality rally that's been organized by-- and get ready to gad at this name -- New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms:

When: Tuesday, June 9, 2009
10:30am - 12:30pm

Where: State Capitol (map)
East Steps
Albany, New York

New York: (Disgusting, Yucky, Gross) Stand 4 Marriage at the Capitol (Blech!)! [NOM]

If you're in the Albany area tomorrow, be sure to show up and peacefully demonstrate why the Empire State will never -- NEVER! -- succumb to this wanton bastardization of the term "constitutional freedom." Fortunately it's right before lunch, so you shouldn't have to worry about the hurtful rhetoric causing your gag reflex to purge the same.

**RELATED: Another rally is scheduled for 6/13 out on Long Island. This writer want be able to attend, since I will be busy getting married in Connecticut. Sorry, Mags.

Your thoughts

I linked to NOM's site to check out their press release and my first automatic response was, "why are they showing a lesbian couple's picture?"

Then I realized that one of the pretty, short-haired, smooth-faced, blonde people was a man. I think.

Oh, I know! They rotate that same pic on their main site. I've done a double take many times.

I swear Timothy, I thought the exact same thing. Either that or Perez Hilton in a bandana.

Wow, Maggs sure gets around. Even made a smug appearance in RI a couple years ago.

But I noted that at the Marriage Equality RI protest this past Saturday that the NOM folks couldn't muster up much of a presence. But then it was a nice sunny day. But nearly 400 of we marriage equality supporters showed up and got our requisite first sunburn too.

I just wonder how much attention they are going to get tomorrow considering the shake up in the Senate today. If they are smart, they'll reschedule.. but I doubt they do.

I'm sure it's a hijacking, but have you been to nationalorganizationformarriage.com? Oops.

Ohoho you'll have to excuse the lovely sense of schadenfreude that's come over me.
