But at least it's not like the economy sucks or anything

Feeding children. Helping the homeless find housing and employment. Researching cures for various diseases. Repairing the infrastructure. Implementing environmental programs. Funding programs aimed at helping troubled or at-risk teens. Building parks. Creating programs that place shelter animals with good homes. Improving the public schools, libraries, parks, and community centers. Funding scholarship programs.

200907161614We can think of countless things that we would do with an extra 343k lying around. The members of Maine's self-appinted "pro-values" crowd have other plans for their own discretionary funds. This data from Portland Press-Herald:

The coalition seeking to overturn Maine's same-sex marriage law with a people's veto has raised more than $343,000 to date, according to papers filed with the state Wednesday, much of it going to professional signature gatherers.
...
The National Organization for Marriage, a New Jersey-based group that opposes gay marriage, contributed $160,000. The Portland diocese contributed $100,000, and the Knights of Columbus contributed $50,000.

Focus on the Family Maine Marriage Committee, a Maine PAC formed by the Colorado-based Focus on the Family, contributed $31,000.

And they haven't even officially qualified for the ballot yet, either. Once this thing gears up, they're surely gonna hit the seven or eight figure range, forcing our side to do the same in order to protect what we have already won from a tyrannical rollback.

Ya know, if these folks aren't careful, people might start to think that their priorities are out whack.

Your thoughts

Everyone: If you're on YouTube, go leave a comment on Stand4MarriageMaine's official page. They've yet to do anything with it yet -- let's make our (calm yet staunch and reasoned) presence known before they notice.

Sure, they will eventually delete them. But I'll screencap it so that we have yet another record of their war on dissension.

There was another thread talking about how to 'win' the church crowds. One response I particularly like and could even do myself. Attend your church, preferably, or go visit another quietly.
During the sermon .... stand and turn your back to the priest/pastor/minister. Then be sure to stay after and be able to discuss your demonstration with any who ask.
