Sometimes you just wanna yell, "LEAVE US THE FRICK ALONE!" Times like this, for example:
The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP) has launched a pro-traditional marriage crusade in three states: New York, Maine and Rhode Island.
Starting today, TFP volunteers, divided into three contingents, called Saint Joseph Caravans, will tour major cities rallying support for traditional marriage.
The Catholic group's handout offers "Ten reasons why homosexual 'marriage' is harmful and must be opposed," and calls on Americans to firmly and peacefully oppose the advance of the homosexual movement.
"Like counterfeit currency, homosexual 'marriage' is not true marriage. It is morally wrong, sinful, offensive to God and a violation of natural law," said TFP spokesman John Ritchie. "To claim that marriage can be anything other than the union of one man and one woman is a flat denial of reality," he continued.

Uh huh. It really is "religious freedom" that's under attack in America. Riiiiiight.
Next time gay activists go on a national "God Hates the Vatican" tour, let us know. You can email us that info at this addy: never-gonna-happen@any-point-in-time-because-we-LGBT-folk-have-no-need-or-desire-to-persecute-people-of-faith-even-if-so-many-of-them-refuse-to-afford-us-the-same-respect.net

May not happen here, but sorry guys. I had a friend who is a retired Episcopal Bishop post a blog on the Blend discussing how Canada came to allow SSM and early 60 and 70' activism in the US. He was blasted off the page via 170 anti-Christian hate comments.

In case anyone was curious about their "10 Reasons" here it is:

The group will no doubt use the same antiquated arguments and distortions of studies. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on their handout.

And not a single one of those ten 'reasons' is valid.
Cliff Notes:
1. it's not a marriage - lie
2. it violates natural law - bogus
3. it always denies a child a father or mother - bogus
4. it validates and promotes the homosexual lifestyle - it does validate the relationships of millions of Americans
5. it turns a moral wrong into a civil right - lie because who the fuck are the Catholics (kid fucking priests, and kid fucker cover upers) to tell anyone what is moral
6. it does not create a family but a naturally sterile union - bogus. they never suggest that post menopausal (sterile) women should not be allowed to be married, or that other naturally sterile unions should not be sanctioned
7. it defeats the state's purpose of benefiting marriage - lie because it does exactly that. marriage benefits the spouses, voluminous law requiring parents to support their children is what protects children, not marriage
8. it imposes it's acceptance on all society - bogus. ENDA (so far only on state levels) and other anti-discrimination and civil union legislation already do impose acceptance in virtually every area of civil society that matter. marriage is only the recognition of our families by the state
9. it is the cutting edge of sexual revolution - (wtf?) bogus. again why entrust matters of morality to the piously immoral
10. it offends god - bogus. how the hell would the Catholics know that? and even if it did, who the fuck cares?

These idjits were here in Maine with their banners and (SERIOUSLY) bagpipes, back in April before the public hearing. I blogged about them on Pam's; they were in Bangor and Augusta, working the busiest streets.
And Marc Mutty, who hired the California Prop 8 folks, told Portland Press Herald today he's worried about "fanatical activists from outside of Maine"???
Gimme a fucking break; who the hell does he think THESE asshats and NOM are???

My first post-Christian childhood thought was do you really want to name it a "crusade," which has the connotation of forcing your religious beliefs on others by whatever means necessary, including killing. Also do you want to use St. Joseph, since his wife Mary, according to the Christian myth, was inseminated by a God and he was more a foster-father. You know, the same way gays and lesbians often have children.

"It really is 'religious freedom' that's under attack in America."
Actually, one could say that it really is. However, what the folks at TFP are overlooking is that they hypocritically seek to infringe upon OUR religious freedoms by imposing their morality on us through force of law.

John, if I hear what you are saying correctly, it is that: that the hatemongering homophobes are the ones who are attacking our religious freedom, by attempting to impose their pseudo morality on us. And, I couldn't agree more.

"It really is 'religious freedom' that's under attack in America."
Yes, it is.
There is a concerted attack on the religious freedom of those who seek to follow God in accordance with their convictions. They look to Scripture and see that God commanded that we love our neighbor, so they try to do that. The see that they are to seek justice and mercy for the disenfranchised and the outcast, so they try.
And then along comes the oppressors who say, "Sorry United Church of Christ. Sorry Reform Judaism. Sorry Episcopal Church. Sorry Universalist Unitarians. Sorry Quakers. But YOU CAN'T DO THAT!! We want no religious freedoms here. We insist you follow our teachings, only marry those people of whom we approve, only provide jobs and benefits and health care to those who do what WE want, only allow children to live with those who will indoctrinate them with our own biases."
Indeed, there is a concerted attack on religious freedom and the sooner we point this out, the sooner that religious bigots in the Southern Baptist Church, the Assemblies of God, the Mormon Church, the Catholic Church, and other denominations will be exposed for the haters of religous freedom that they are.

Agreed.
But when it comes to Judaism, I wouldn't just limit it to Reform, Timothy. I have great Conservative and even Orthodox members in my life who are deeply committed to their faith, but could not be more out of step with the "religious freedom" crowd.
Also, if you click on my wedding link, you might notice that I had a nun at my special day. While she did mention that the food was terrific, she somehow neglected to make note of how many of her freedoms Andrew and I massacred via our "I dos."
