Video: It's our 'normalcy' that's at stake!

Mainers: Do *you* think gays are abnormal? [YT: Maine4Marriage]

Your thoughts

As I watch this video, I keep thinking that many straight people who see it would say to themselves: "um, yes gays ARE abnormal. That doesn't mean they will all be taken out and shot, but they ARE abnormal. Nothing wrong with this message." To bring people to our side, we have to use the same scare tactics as the right, instead of simply reinstating facts to dramatic music. This ad would be much stronger if we played on the public's fear of losing constitutional freedoms. For example, the concluding statement can be: "the far right wants to put basic civil rights to people it considers abnormal. Today, it's the gays. Who will it be tomorrow? Protect the rights of your fellow citizens. Vote no to the people's veto."

Anna: Just to clarify: This isn't really an ad. It's simply the first of many videos we will be doing over the next few months, taking on numerous facets of the Maine fight. This MFPC quip is one that could have very easily gone unnoticed -- I just wanted to make sure it got out there.

Everyone responds to different things. While there are some who surely want to de-normalize homosexuality, I can assure you (from my own feedback) that there are some who are APPALLED at this goal.
