A Lion in Winter (of '72)

November of 1971 wasn't a particular pro-gay time. But as late journalist Victor Riesel detailed in a January 27, 1972 column, Sen. Kennedy was more than willing to let the press see his yet-to-be-fully-formed-yet-still-greatly-appreciated version of LGBT support, even when the gains in doing so were somewhere between nil and minimal:
