Gotzon gots on the roster; We ask why
Last year it was Shohreh Aghdashloo. This year it's Jenn Gotzon, an actress who has appeared in films like Frost/Nixon and 500 Days of Summer, whose appearance at the upcoming Values Voters Summit raises some questions in our mind.
Now, it's likely that Gotzon, like Aghdashloo before her, has signed up for this event simply because she has a certain film that may hold conservative appeal. But what Gotzon likely does not know is that beneath its nice "family" mask, the Family Research Council's Values Voters Summit is an intensely anti-gay soiree wherein a call to ban LGBT equality runs neck and neck with decrying "Obamacare" as the most surefire way to get the crowd on its feet. On the anti-gay calendar, this event is like Christmas, No Queers New Years, and Prop 8 Passage Day all rolled into one!!
This is the event where far, far, FAR right speakers like Star Parker decry "the promotion of sodomy." This is the vent where anti-gay bullying is pooh poohed as a non-issue. This is the event where candidates like Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney go to call for a federal marriage ban. This is the event for which the National Organization For Marriage is serving as a "new media' sponsor (and failing miserably). This is the event where "values" are defined by how strongly you can devalue gay lives and loves.
So we have to ask Ms. Gotzon and her management: Do you really want to go from 500 Days of Summer to 86ing Gays By Early Fall? If not, we would strongly suggest that you reevaluate this booking.
*UPDATE, 09/09: Ms. Gotzon's management tells us that she has reconsidered and will not be appearing.
