Why should Sonja have a cow when she can get the 'Milk' for free?
It's one thing for our opposition to oppose California's Harvey Milk Day bill. It's quite another for them to outright lie in the name of political opportunism.
This claim comes from Focus on the Family's Citizenlink:
Prop 8 spokeswoman Sonja Eddings Brown said California's children deserve better.
"It's not right," she said. "They deserve to be able to determine who they are without the interference of adult agendas or political agendas. Not only is it expensive and silly, it's wrong."
Family Advocates Push For Veto of 'Harvey Milk Day' [Citizenlink]
Expensive? Well that is a sellable talking point. But the big problem with Sonja's logic? Well, that the Milk Day bill comes at no cost -- NO COST! -- to the state! It's specified in the bill that any exercises related to the day are to "be integrated into the regular school program, and be conducted by the school or institution within the amount otherwise budgeted for educational programs." In fact, bill sponsor Mark Leno made a point to ensure that the bill would not have a financial impact, considering the state's current fiscal climate.
So this "expensive" claim is nothing more than a cheap attack from a political movement that has more than proven themselves willing and even eager to resort to the same. It is this misrepresentative "adult agenda" that is truly silly. And it's the one that California parents should truly fear!

Sonja Eddings Brown certainly deserves to have more than a mere 52 members on her Facebook fan page:
If only because thanks to Sonja, I got the chance to make a new friend, one of her former students, who reports that Sonja Eddings Brown is Rather Unpleasant

The fundies are also up in arms because it will force children to learn about a liar and a sexual predator.
I remember learning about a bunch of rapists when I was in school (American aristocratic slave owners).
I remember learning about a bunch of rapists and genocidal maniacs (insert name of European explorer here).
I remember learning about an adulterer and a liar/criminal when I was in school (Kennedy and Nixon).
So what's the problem?
