Yes on 1's biggest donor: An examination (Vol. 10)

by Jeremy Hooper

On 9/11/09 (of all days), the National Organization For Marriage's Brian Brown began his weekly email like so:

6A00D8341C503453Ef0120A5Bb38Bc970C-1

So we just need to ask Mainers: Do you honestly feel like you are fighting a cultural Vietnam right now? Because NOM, who finds logic in such comparisons, has certainly hauled a tankload into the state in order to "war" against LGBT citizens:

$1.1 million of the $1.4 million raised by Stand for Marriage Maine in October came from a single source: the National Organization for Marriage. In fact, the Washington, D.C., organization has bankrolled more than 60 percent of the campaign to ban same-sex marriages in Maine.

Here's just hoping their missiles stay rhetorical!

The National Organization For Marriage: This group is extremist. This group is unfair. This group is hellbent on destroying anyone who gets in the way along their narrow path. At this point, this group (coupled with the Catholic church, to which NOM is strongly tied) essentially is Stand For Marriage Maine (the group pushing the 'Yes on 1' side) .

We have one week to defeat this group. What will you do to help?

National Organization for Marriage would be better off putting that money into making a foundation for those who are having marital problems, and not blame those who have had nothing to do with the divorce rate. The fact that they hide behind the " Protect marriage" facade is more than just getting old...it's lost its steam. There will always be those who want to remain in the dark ages. The time of the idea of only a nuclear family made up of male/female only is long gone. No longer are we all a two parent,a straight only, or even just gay single parent household. Shocking..but yes..gays DO HAVE CHILDREN. Surprise! Marriage will always be what those TWO PERSONS who say "I DO" make it. Sometime's you're blessed and can weather whatever comes your way together..sometimes you just can't. It's not anyone elses fault. So then why can't I have the same rights as anyone else? The times when Raymond Burr (actor of Ironside fame) was married, and gay...have to come to an end. He later died after 30 years with his male partner. Even Richard Chamberlain who has been with his partner for 30 some odd years. That was then...this is now. We gays are not going away...nor will we allow others to continue to trample on our rights. The time is now for Gay equality. 6 states have already come to this realistic conclusion. The time for Gays to be on the "DL" (down low) is over as well.We must and will fight for equality! We will NOT be denied any longer!
