Mags Gallagher: Her smile is dependent on our tears
Need more reason to get involved in the marriage equality fights in New York or New Jersey? Well here, let this quip from Maggie Gallagher light a fire under your arse:
"If they are unable to pass gay marriage in New York and New Jersey, combined with the loss in Maine, it will confirm that gay marriage is not the inevitable wave of the future," said Maggie Gallagher, president of the National Organization for Marriage, which mobilizes social conservatives to fight against same-sex unions.

Oh how Maggie would love this to be the case. She has staked her entire reputation and historical legacy on the prospect that anti-gay discrimination, unlike any form of bias to ever precede it, will go down in the books as good and righteous. If marriage equality is inevitable, then so is her rhetoric's future unpalatability. So she desperately needs to delay her work's confinement to the annals of the Museum of Unfortunate Civil Rights History, as the alternative is far less profitable for her.
Well we didn't choose the unfortunate path that depends on unfairness to survive -- Maggie did. And it's time to stop delaying justice under the sensible pump of one Maggie Gallagher!

Surely she isn't so naive as to think that even if SSM fails to be enacted now it won't be in the future?
What am I saying?!? Um...yeah, Maggie, you're right. Now time to go home and forget all about NY and NJ...

You know we can all do our part donating money, talk with our friends and family - volunteer countless hours to help the cause - but I hate to sound like the negative Nancy (pun intended) but as long as our right to marry is put up for a popular vote are chance are very slim - and I think as a community we might need to really start rethinking our strategy.

Regular readers know that I never personally attack people, preferring to take on the message. But that being said, if there is anyone who has truly earned personal ire it is Maggie.
She has willfully, unapologetically appointed herself the leader of the culture war troops, willing to engage in the most demeaning attacks against "two dudes" who are into "this gay marriage thing." She works overtime to recast the marriage play so that we are the "storm" and her troops are the rainbow. She is fomenting hostility, and collecting a healthy paycheck to do it. She has invited whatever criticism comes her way.
I will still focus on the message rather than the personality. But with Maggie, I get it if/when others have trouble doing the same.

Just imagine this: Without mags. putting her nose where it didn't belong in CA. and ME. we probably WOULD have won!!! But, we didn't due to her group's desperate fear-mongering tactics!
And, good for you, Jeremy...Mags and crew would only criticize you for an ad hominem attack; and that would help no one.

Ok, I checked my bank account and found I could donate a few dollars this week. I was able to give to ESPA, but not GSE. GSE had a minimum online donation that I was unable to do at this time. My $10 may not be that much, but it may help when added to others who can also spare $10.
