For equality advocates, there is a somewhat promising, slightly nerve-racking week coming up here in New York. That being the case, our pals at Towleroad decided to sit down with the man at the helm of the principled push for fairness, Gov. David Paterson, to get his thoughts on our chances in Albany, the lessons from Maine, and a whole host of various and sundry issues dealing with the Empire State's long overdue chance to become a civil rights leader. Take it away, Corey Johnson:

Bravo, Governor Paterson. I've been quite annoyed lately about the "false divide" the media has presented between the gay and African-American communities. I hope everyone remembers that David Paterson of New York, Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, and Congressman John Lewis -- all African Americans -- have been at the forefront of LGBT rights. I can't name many people -- gay or straight, black or white -- who have been more supportive of us.

O..M...G! I haven't seen Corey in SO long! That's him!
He came out to the football of which he was captain when he was in high school!
Not long after that, we met on the picket line at Paramount Studios picketing Dr. Laura.
He was SUCH a cute kid (charming beyond belief) and we had a blast hanging together at the protest as well as after.
How I wish I could hug him again...
