When it comes to bias, NOM hopes its caca will be good Garden State fertilizer
-The idea that the New Jersey legislature has not taken up the issue of marriage equality at any point during Jon Corzine's time as governor? Yea, that would be a complete and utter lie! The whole reason why we have civil unions in the Garden State is because the Supreme Court mandated that the legislature take up the issue. That body of lawmakers made the unfortunate choice to choose civil unions rather than marriage, and Gov. Corzine signed them into law. In the time since, they have learned that CIVIL UNIONS ARE NOT DELIVERING ON WHAT THE COURT REQUESTED! So now is the time to correct the mistake. But it won't be an inaugural consideration. It will be a correction of a past bit of shortsighted incrementalism!
-Isn't it a tad hypocritical for NOM to cite "an economic crisis that has left many families struggling to make ends meet" as a reason why the NJ legislature should not focus on marriage, but then in the very next breath ask their supporters to GIVE, GIVE, GIVE for their vague NJ campaign? I mean, on the legislature's side, we have a crucial matter of inequality that truly does affect the bottom lines of countless gay and lesbian couples. But on NOM's side, you have fear-mongery generalities about gays destroying marriage. They aren't even supporting a candidate or a referendum -- they just want to put out an ugly campaign of anti-gay whispers. And yet they are accusing elected lawmakers of being the wasteful ones??!!
Those are but two of the thoughts we had after reading Brian Brown's latest e-blast. Go form some of your own:
Don't let them get away with this! FIND OUT WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP THE GOOD FIGHT:
**EARLIER: NOM: The worst New Jersey joke ever CONcocted
Your thoughts
They are right on one thing, the New Jersey legislature hasn't show any sense of urgency on marriage equality until now and, unlike Gov. Patterson, Conzine really hasn't pushed for it. Ironically it appears that Christie's victory might end up being best thing that could have happend for us because it's finally got the Democrats in Trenton moving on this. Does anyone beleive we'd be seeing action on marriage equality right now if Corzine won? Who knows how much longer they would have waited.

Why should we be contributing money to some kind of battle to get the legislature to do the right thing when we have years of evidence that they're not interested in doing the right thing? Isn't it time to go back to court, tell the judges that "civil unions" have not lived up to their order for equal rights, and insist they order the state to give gay citizens full marriage?
Stop wasting a lot of money pussy footing around with legislators who clearly don't give a damn about your civil rights, and go back to court - the one venue where we've sometimes actually won.

Tom and Ken: For what it's worth, I've been hearing the November 2009 timeline for over a year now. It now looks like it's going to be December instead, but it is on the same track that it's been on for a while.
For some time, the fight in NJ has been to get them to move up the vote. But the lawmakers and governor were pretty steadfast about taking it up now, rather than earlier. They wanted to wait until after the election. And that was with or without a Corzine win (which makes the lame duck variable all the more unfortunate, since it gives the right a talking point, even though it really isn't a factor).
Again, just putting out there what I know. I was a MAJOR critic of the civil unions vote, which should have never happened. But once it did, we knew we were going to have to live with it for at least a year or two, while we made our case for why civil unions are unequal and unfair. And that's essentially what has happened.

Steven Goldstein and Garden State Equality have done everything they could to make sure that the Civil Union law does not work. They turned the NJ Civil Union Review Commission into a travesty and complete fraud. It is now the time to expose what they have done and show who they really are. They have violated the civil rights of millions of NJ residents and their families. Corruption in New Jersey has to stop. www.theCURCconspiracy.com

Mr. Tardy (soleil10), I have a quick question: Are you still a member of the Unification Church? Because considering the homo-hostile teachings of Rev. Moon, your resistance to marriage equality is anything but surprising.
