Pat's forked with us for eons: So aren't his pro-gay guests putting knives in our backs?

by Jeremy Hooper

Oh how we wish pro-gay celebrities would stop letting their love for publicity trump their professed love for the gays:

Sandra Lee has spoken at length about how her love for the gay community (including her own brother) closely rivals her affection for jarred tomato sauce. Yet she has no problem playing kissy-kissy with Mr. "'So-called homosexuals' are an 'abomination before God' who want to 'destroy marriage'"? Sorry, but no pro-gay entree ably pairs with Pat's constant anti-gay whine.

It's easy for personalities like Ms. Lee to separate politics from personal, and to sign on to puff pieces like the above. And it's understandable why she would want to get her mission out to as wide of an audience as possible. But "The 700 Club" is no ordinary kitchen. Pat Robertson is a man whose overheated oven has been burning our biscuits for decades on end. If a gay-supporting chef wants the gay community to follow their recipes for culinary success, then they might want to more closely scrutinize their own recipe for heightened book sales and ratings!

Your thoughts

I couldn't sit through the whole interview so I'm not sure, but is she known for being an outspoken christian like Kristen Chenowith for example? It's possible she's just ignorant about Pat and what 700 club stands for in terms of LGBT issues. But even if thats the case it is irresponsible of her and if she is aware then she needs to do the right thing and not go back on!

Well unfortunately, Ron, this is already her second or third appearance. And she said in a past interview that her grandmother loves Pat. So I'd be surprised if she is unaware of what he's all about. And even if she is, her PR person should be aware.

Not sure about her faith. I honestly know little about her. But I do know that the only way someone who claims to want to be a gay icon should go on "700" is if they intend to challenge the show for what it is! I'd gladly take that booking.

If I can get hold of her email address, I will school her on Patty.

I'm sorry, but who is Sandra Lee?

What's funny, John, is that she's really only on my radar because of positive, even fawning, LGBT media coverage. I've never seen her show.

This video is ridiculous. For people who hate Sandra Lee and like to poke fun at her, I recommend visiting FoodNetworkHumor.com - it is hilarious.
