This time we must block Rep. Chaffetz' kick!

by Jeremy Hooper

21 years ago, Jason Chaffetz earned national headlines when he kicked the winning field goal in the waning minutes of the Freedom Bowl, lifting his Brigham Young University above the University of Colorado at Boulder:

Cut to 2009. The same Jason Chaffetz is now a Republican congressman. And this time, it's freedom itself that he's hoping to kick in the hide:

Sticking to a promise he made in May, Mormon congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) promised to do everything he could to block the D.C. Marriage Equality bill from becoming law. Congress has 30 days to take action against it.

Ya know, growing up in the football obsessed house that I did, it's a near certainty that I was forced to spend that December of '88 day watching the BYU vs. Colorado game rather than the Nick @ Nite reruns that were always more my speed. That childhood setback I could handle. But seriously, if I have to watch the older Chaffetz play political games with my older self's civil rights? Well in the name of Donna Reed, Michael Dukakis, and Darian Hagan, I vow that there will be hell to pay!

Your thoughts

Even though my own house was (and still is) rather football obsessed, 21 years ago they were too busy preparing for this gayby's impending baptism to care much.

There's nothing he can do to block the DC law unless the Democratic leadership decides to totally sell us out. His comments are designed to raise money for a Senatorial campaign.
