Kenship: Most conny of the social cons love them some VA AG

by Jeremy Hooper

You know Ken Cuccinelli, the Virginia Attorney General who just requested that his state's public colleges and universities rescind any and all policies that ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation? Yea, well -- despite only being in the AG office for a few months, Ken seems to have really endeared himself to the far, far right.

Why do we say this? Well, because this is the invited guest list for an upcoming Liberty University/Freedom Federation event:

201003080925-1
Summit 2010 [FF]

And beyond just this list, summit affiliates/exhibitors include the Family Research Council (whose spokesman has called for our exportation and criminalization), the Traditional Values Coalition (a Southern Poverty Law Center "hate group"), the American Family Association (whose officials have compared us to heroin abuse), and the "ex-gay" proponents at Exodus International. From the nation's number one backer of military unfairness (Elaine Donnelly) to someone who compares gay's civil unions to "armageddon" (Harry Jackson) to a man who was behind one of the most crazily over-the-top events in anti-equality history (Lou Engle), the sum of this summit's parts creates one "yikes"-inducing machine.

Now, this is just an invited list, so the more mainstream figures (Pawlenty, Perry, Cuccinelli, etc) may not actually appear. But it's not like the invited any high profile members of their opposition for the purposes of publicity. All of these invitee are invited because they are seen as line towers on issues that hurt LGBT in deep and widespread ways. So just the fact that these folks, who are undeniably among the most overheated anti-gay figures on the scene, want someone like Cuccinelli shows how far he has gone to appease this crew. That should make every last one of Virginia's LGBT residents to raise an eyebrow, a deepened political consciousness, and/or a ton of money to support Cuccinelli's next political challenger.

Your thoughts

A veritable list of evil.

Is it just me or is Matt Mihelie cute? Too bad he's a hatero... I think I'll stick to Demitri Martin, he's cuter, nerdier and generally more awesome
