Pugno campaign PROP-a-g8s forward

by Jeremy Hooper

PugnoAndy Pugno -- general counsel for Proposition 8's "Protect Marriage" coalition and sayer of things like, "there is no doubt that re-defining marriage to include homosexual relationships would ipso facto divorce the institution itself from its fundamental, biological foundation" -- managed to win his primary yesterday. That means Pugno will face Democrat (and strong LGBT ally) Richard Pan in November, as the two vie for a 5th District Assembly seat:

Richard Pan, Andy Pugno win in AD 5 [Sac Bee]

So game on, residents of AD 5. You have a choice between a Pan and a man who proudly ripped away a civil right in one quick flash. A decision between showing respect for ALL citizens or demonstrating an un-American lack of compassion for a certain community's civil rights. A contest between moving forward and working to heal wounds vs. turning Prop 8 into one overwrought, incredibly divisive movement with no foreseeable end.

Pugno's spent the last few of years of his adult life using his personal faith-based convictions to get the word out about gays and their supposed inability to stand on an equal CIVIL playing field. It's our time to take control of the conversation!

**MORE: None of us should ever forget the 2008 letter in which the Prop 8 side tried to bully a local anti-Prop 8 business, Abbott & Associates, into either donating an equal contribution or suffering public rebuke. A letter to which Pugno lent his name:

(feel free to snatch the code and pass around)
