In New York, concrete jungle where dreams [were turned into nightmares 50 times this year]

Well this is certainly trending in the wrong direction:

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say suspected anti-gay bias attacks are up slightly this year amid several high-profile incidents in recent weeks.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said so far there have been 50 reports of anti-gay bias attacks in the city, up from 43 the same time last year.

No, seven more is not a huge increase. But bias attacks in supposedly progressive areas are not the time to act like size queens: Even the tiniest of growths should hold our interest.
