Like many politicos, this writer sincerely loves the debate and fair-minded discourse that (ideally) comes along with the gig. Sometimes an open forum affords the player the opportunity to hear a reasoned voice who may be on a completely different page politically, but whose articulated views force even the most dug-in-heels of partisans to at least listen to the other side. The chance to meet someone who finds the grey in the black and white. Someone who gives an Oscar worthy Devil's advocate performance. Someone who restores a sense of hope, suggesting that even though we have deep divides in this country, there is still too much thoughtful respect shared among us to ever tear us apart completely.
