Getting OWNed: Gay chat show in Winfrey's aspirational pool

by Jeremy Hooper

Ryan-OconnorThe finalists for Oprah Winfrey's "Your OWN Show: Oprah's Search for the Next TV Star" contest have just been announced. And lo and behold -- there's a gay themed program in the running:

Ryan O'Connor, of West Hollywood, Calif., who says he wants to be the country's gay best friend. "If a variety show and a traditional talk show had a baby, that'd be my show," he said.

Ryan will face off against nine other hopefuls once the show makes it January 7 debut. But if the rumor mill has taught us anything about Oprah, it's that gay chat tends to stick around the talk show queen regardless of all else.
