Oh HI again: Basic civil rights rise from volcanic ashes

by Jeremy Hooper

201101290919Late Friday, the Hawaii state Senate voted 19-6 in favor of civil unions. The same measure that Republican Gov. Linda Lingle unceremoniously pooh-poohed last year. The same measure that new Democratic Governor Neil Abercrombie has said he will sign:

The overdue measure now heads to the House, where its chances look good.

The past year of needless delay now heads to the dustbin of history, where its merits look lacking and pointless.
