Warning, Delawareans: If you see 'Wrong Side of History' in your caller ID, here's why:

by Jeremy Hooper

A Senate committee approved a bill that would grant civil union rights to Delaware's same-sex couples. So of course that should-be benign development shines like a bat signal for anti-LGBT social conservatives, who are now engaging in a nasty robo-call campaign attacking gay families and the supposed threat attached:

The majority of the opposition is being organized by the Delaware Family Policy Council.

Advocates on the ground tell ThinkProgress that the group has conducted a push poll campaign, from a D.C. number, relentlessly bombarding the state with messages about the supposed harmful effects of recognizing same-sex relationships. One such call warns residents that civil unions are a Trojan horse for same-sex marriage and that the measure would use taxpayer dollars to teach children that “it’s okay to have two moms and two dads.”

Well we do want full marriage equality, as a rule. And it is okay to have two moms and two dads. So in that respect: Thanks for calling.

But just the idea that grown adults spend their time, money, and energy flow on stopping their neighbor from achieving some semblance of civil parity in this increasingly hostile world? With life-interruptive phone calls, yet? Ugh. Just Yuck. Like the very thought makes me need to do an emergency yoga/detox combo.

No wonder young people are ditching their land lines.
