Archbishop Dolan conjures 1984 imagery; not referring to leg warmers, sadly
Oh look, a state Catholic leader is making very hurtful statements about what the benign civil recognition of our marriages will supposedly mean for society -- that's different:
Archibishop Timothy Dolan blogged that “history, natural law, the Bible...the religions of the world, human experience, and just plan gumption tells us” marriage is between a man and a woman.
“The definition of marriage is hardwired into our human reason,” Dolan wrote. “To tamper with that definition, or to engage in some Orwellian social engineering about the nature and purpose of marriage, is perilous to all of us.”

And of course, as per always, Dolan matches all of his pointed claims (to wit: gays' loving bonds constitute some sort of Orwellian fiction) with just as forceful denials that he could ever be against anyone or anything. Heaven's no! Because that's the game, baby. A game where our opposition shifts and shapes the rules any number of ways, just as long as we LGBT folk lose, no matter what, and they come off smelling like roses (or rosaries, as it were) regardless of the stated overreach.
*REMINDER: Dolan doesn't want gays to marry, since he can't marry his mom or play shortstop for the Yankees:
