Gorgeous northern state advances ghastly downmarket statement

by Jeremy Hooper

Minnesota-1The Minnesota House Civil Law Committee has joined the Senate Judiciary Committee in moving a discriminatory marriage amendment. And once again, the vote was entirely along party lines:

House committee passes anti-gay marriage amendment [Minn. Independent]

Hopefully the bill will somehow fail in one or both of the GOP-controlled chambers. But if not, we at least hope the Republicans will have the fortitude to change the "Civil Law" Committee's name to the much more reflective: "Civil Law (unless the majority party prefers to let almost exclusively faith-based opposition muddy the wall of separation) Committee."
