Video: Gender not our Achilles heel (or wingtip)

by Jeremy Hooper

We always find it particularly ridiculous when religious people cite the differences between males and females as the reason why gays are wrong:

Because don't LGBT people see these distinctions just as clearly as heterosexual/cisgender people? Isn't the very reason why certain people have certain attractions or gender identities because we all have the capacity to recognize what is natural and unnatural to our hearts, minds, and souls? And isn't this true regardless of how fully we might seek a more egalitarian or more gender-neutral world, or even how non-conforming one might be in terms of gender expression (the breaking from/blending of "tradition" itself being a recognition of/challenge to these traditions)?

We get why this speaker, Dannah Gresh, would want to stay away from the so-called "clobber passages," since those open up a whole can of worms about the biblical passages that evangelicals so conveniently cherry-pick their way around. Now we hope she'll realize that the creative distribution of penises and vaginas says nothing about the distribution of sexual orientations and/or gender identities.
