NOM EXPOSED: "…and the faith communities that sustain it"
Obviously, we NOM Watchers focus on the "protecting marriage" portion of NOM's mission statement. We clobber the claims that turn benign progress into weaponry, while pointing out the sheer silliness of the idea that same-sex couples' legal bonds are somehow attacking matrimony . Understanding and shooting down every syllable of NOM's "protecting marriage" strategy is key, so that we can then take our finely-tuned knowledge to the larger public, short-handing the debate for those who don't have the time, energy, or wherewithal to dig up this stuff the way that we do. That's the work, primarily: Connecting dots that may otherwise go unconnected; moving minds that may otherwise go duped.
But as you may or may not know, NOM's official mission statement actually has two components: The first, more obvious one about "protecting marriage," as well as a second part that claims to address the one element that's keeping marriage alive in this country. The full statement reads:
"Protecting Marriage and the faith communities that sustain it."
