On Daniel Avila's apology, previously unaddressed NOM connections

by Jeremy Hooper

Daniel Avila, the NOM-connected policy advisor for marriage and family to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops' Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage, has apologized for his unbelievable comments suggesting Satan makes people gay:

Retraction/Apology from Daniel Avila [The Boston Pilot]

Which is welcome. And rare. While it's hard to believe that indicting Satan for gay existences could be some kind of "oopsie" slip of the tongue, it's still somewhat refreshing to see someone on the opposition side actually taking responsibility for reliably hostile words.

But in considering this apology, I remembered something that I had completely forgotten before. That is: Avila is actually the man who wrote an insidery piece about the 2010 NOM Summer Marriage tour -- a piece (where a counter protest is framed as "what hell must look like") that is still hosted on NOM's main site:

Not sure what my point is, really. Just interesting to see the company NOM is keeping.
