Remember, gays: You have until 4/15 to tithe to DOMA
I don't need a story to tell me this. My husband and I experience it every year:

In fact, our tax preparer -- a longtime acquaintance of my in-laws -- annually curses the limitations that put me and Andrew on a different playing field from my brother- and sister-in-law. So no, I don't need anyone to tell me. I only need America to start shutting out the "special rights" noise and start considering the undeniable inequalities.
As an experiment, Andrew and I really should get our tax guru to calculate it two ways, both as we are and as we would be if were were heterosexual. But then again, aren't the ingrained indignities and extra financial burdens enough of a souvenir?
