Archdiocese of Baltimore: Having their tax-exempt cake, eating our rights too

The Archdiocese of Baltimore, a tax-exempt body, is already aggressively petitioning against Maryland's recently passed *CIVIL* marriage bill, running this prominent link to the Maryland Marriage Alliance (aka NOM and company) on the top of its website:

This is of course the same crowd who, when told they must comply with non-discrimination laws in areas such as adoption if they want to accept state and federal subsidization, loves to hem and haw about how they are being stifled by the government. Yet they have no problem using their tax-exempt web resources to stifle civil equality, nor are there any apparent restrictions that prevent them from doing so. Why is this okay, exactly?!?
