Maryland for [church/state] marriage
Here, a day after Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) made civil rights history in his state by signing marriage equality into law, it's quite interesting/telling to find the so-called Maryland Marriage Alliance, the organized campaign to put those same CIVIL licensing rights onto the November ballot, using its organizational Facebook page to recruit wholly religious opposition:
Why not a law professor? Why not a speech on "The Constitution and Reason"? Why not hold the talk in a secular meeting hall rather than at the Catholic high school (Mount De Sales Academy) where the speech is scheduled to be held? Why not place ads in local papers rather than rely on the church bulletin network that's being used to promote this appearance?
The answer, of course, is that this ballot campaign, just like every prior campaign to roll back our civil rights at referendum, would be nothing if not for the church/state-obfuscation that those opposed to *CIVIL* marriage equality have managed to convince America is valid rationale for halting certain taxpayers' equality. It's so dangerous, this casually accepted politicking. Not just to gay families, but to anyone who values *TRUE* religious freedom.
