Video: 'Well Thomas, you have written that people can change their sexual orientation'

by Jeremy Hooper

As I've pointed out, the National Organization For Marriage's Culture Director, Thomas Peters, has advocated for so-called gay "change" on a number of occasions. This weekend, GOProud's Jimmy LaSalvia called the NOM personality out on that fact:

No, it's NOT a separate conversation. Thomas has claimed "change happens" but the mainstream media just doesn't talk about it. He has also voiced his support for a "12-step program for people with same-sex attraction." He has described pro-LGBT clubs and programs as "promot[ing] behaviors that hurt the human person." And so on and so forth. Fully linked roundup (of just some of it) can be found here.

If you believe that LGBT people should be put through some sort of twelve step program, then that supersedes all else. There is little to no chance that someone with such a view is going to support LGBT people in public policy or keep even half a mind open to the idea that sexual orientation os a normal human characteristic. I am *SICK* of the media letting these people get away with this, as if they can completely denounce our human cores in their own forums and yet act as if their civil marriage concerns are based in something else when speaking to the media! NOM is a Catholic group and Thomas comes to the fight because he is a Catholic person. There is no separation in conversation here!

If you want to take away my civil rights, I will push back hard. But if you want to "change" the core of who I am? That goes further. And is worse. And is inextricable from all the rest of it! Thomas has advocated for "changing" gays, and he currently speaks to the media on behalf of the National Organization For Marriage. He should be asked about this undetachable part of his punditry profile on more occasions, not less. I will do my best to see that he is.
