'Hey sis—I work every day to deny your family in real, demonstrable ways (for monetary and political gain). Can you still make it to Thanksgiving?'

by Jeremy Hooper

Alvin McEwen notes a truly sad and inexcusable fact about Frank Schubert, Proposition 8 mastermind and the National Organization For Marriage's Political Director:

But there is a sad contradiction to this man's nonsense.

The [SF Chronicle] article says that Schubert uses harsh tactics to supposedly defend marriage, especially claiming that it would harm children. He even pushes the discredited Mark Regnerus study in the article.

The sad contradiction is that Schubert is doing this even though his sister is lesbian and is raising children
NOM strategist harming same-sex families through his willful ignorance [Holy Bullies]

The story is nothing new. We are always learning that this or that social conservative thought leader has an LGBT relative, sometimes even an openly LGBT child. If the personal is political, then the anti-LGBT political fight is definitely interwoven with many of the most ardent activists' battles with their own homes.

It's astoundingly insensitive and desperately non-familial. Then again, so is the movement that pays its bills on the back on bias.
