Former Romney adviser Richard Grenell seriously equating Mitt with President on marriage equality

by Jeremy Hooper

Been having this exchange with Richard Grenell on Twitter. Will update if more comes of it:

Mitt's way of "playing politics"? To wit:

Contrasting that with a President who has come out for marriage equality, who opposes DOMA, who opposes state marriage bans, and who opposes an FMA? It's a ludicrous comparison to make (even if, in those last tweets, Grenell seems to be denying that he actually made it).

You may not like the guy, but the President has not "given us nothing" on marriage. And in the next four years, someone is certainly going to be tasked with continuing this conversation. Personally, I'll put my hope in the one who has supported my legal marriage and not the one who has vowed to legally divorce me.

**EARLIER: This is not the first time Grenell's worked this false conflation: Romney's (gay) spokesman claims boss shares same rights/marriage positions as Obama, Clinton [G-A-Y]

*UPDATE: And now Grenell has locked down his tweets. Take that, discussion [::harumph::] !

**UPDATE: Oh, now it gets better. Richard has now restored his Twitter account and added a few claims about me, my reputation, and my voice. Basically, I can't be trusted, I'm irrelevant, and I had to recruit support against him:

Oh Richard. Honestly.

A) I have seven years of accurate reporting that has earned applause from even my toughest critics. Call my verbatim recitation of your tweets "making stuff up" if it makes you feel better. I trust my readers' comprehension.

B) Franky, I'm not hinging my career on whether you've heard of me. I've been featured on no less than ten national media outlets in the past two weeks, my book is currently the top rated G&L nonfiction book on Amazon, I consult for two of the nation's top LGBT groups, and I have a pretty sizable platform. Oh, I also have twice as many Twitter followers as you. [::neener, neener, neener::]

C) I don't need to recruit support. I have supporters. They have opinions. As mentioned, I have twice as many Twitter followers as you. Some of them surely had opinions about your odd flip out over me simply stating some truths.

Bottom line: I made clear, factual points about the obvious distinction between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama on the subject of marriage equality. Your reactions to those points? Bizarre, at best.

But go ahead, shoot the messenger. I'm used to it.
