Video: NOM's Jennifer Roback Morse fully embracing org's Catholicism

by Jeremy Hooper

The Ruth Institute, like all National Organization For Marriage operations, is an obviously Catholic-motivated organization. That is not news.

However, even though we all know it, I'm actually glad that NOM's Jennifer Roback Morse is now vowing to actually embrace her offshoot organization's inextricable Catholicism:

I say I'm glad, because it's LONG overdue. I've always said that the National Organization For Marriage should actually be called something like the National Organization for Conservative Catholic Teaching on Marriage. That would be much more honest of them. That way, at least everyone would know that, in supporting this particular org. to whom the entire conservative movement has outsourced the marriage fight, they are actually supporting an outfit that puts its majority stock in canonical law. We would have a more transparent debate structure, if nothing else.

In the beginning, NOM would never admit its deep Catholicism. Slowly that opened up a bit, thanks to people like me making it impossible for them to deny. So now, if NOM and its crew wants to react to its recent electoral drubbing by owning the faith motivations that are driving them to fight against certain citizens' civil rights? Well I say that's a good thing. Let's have that open discussion. I'm more than confident in our ability to challenge that drive in the courts, be they of law or of public opinion.
