Ellen + 'Merry Christmas' = a great AFA paradox
The American Family Association has pushed two big causes over the past twelve months: (1) Working as hard they could to persuade JC Penney (or JCP, as it's becoming known) to fire out lesbian Ellen DeGeneres and (2) Attacking any retailer not named Chick-fil-a that uses "holiday" rather than "Christmas." So this new ad must really lead to conflict within the Tupelo offices:
An out lesbian and a full-throated "Merry Christmas"? Whatever will they do?!
Meanwhile, the AFA's beloved Chick-fil-A continues to use "holiday" and only "holiday"….
…and yet the AFA says nothing, even while boycotting companies like Gap for doing the very same thing. So now they have some choices. Do they come out against Chick-fil-A even if the company stands with them against LGBT rights? Do they come out against the pro-gay JCP even if the company says "Merry Christmas"? Or, best option yet: do they stop policing both our holiday well-wishing and our bedrooms and take up a new hobby like model airplaning or something?
