At least Matt Barber's honest: social conservatives didn't want Giglio to preach at inaugural in first place

This is the general view that was taking shape in the hours after Giglio was first announced. It's political opportunism coupled with the constant drive to seize victimhood that has led Tony Perkins, Bryan Fischer, Albert Mohler, and others to take the new approach.
