Coalition of African-American pastors giving NOM prez an honorary degree; no B.S.

by Jeremy Hooper

As you surely remember, the National Organization For Marriage has a strategy statement that admits its intent to "drive a wedge" and "fan the hostility" between black and gay voters:

Brian Brown was the president of NOM when these documents were written. Every year, we see more and more signs of this astoundingly cynical strategy's implementation. It's all quite disturbing.

Yet despite that cold reality, the anti-gay Coalition of African-American pastors is seriously gearing up to give Brian Brown an honorary degree. No, I'm not joking:

A degree for "fanning the hostility"? What, is Brian minoring in "sideswiping Obama" (another one of NOM's stated plans)?

Then again, this is the same organization whose head, Rev. Willie Owens, admits that he sees gay people as unnatural, that he wants there to be "a broad-based assault" against those of us who live and love peacefully within same-sex marriages, that he sees President Obama as akin to Judas because of his support for marriage equality, and that the Commander-in-Chief's support is somehow tantamount to "condoning" child molestation. Forgive me if I look less to this institution's degree programs and more to the crass "culture war" extracurriculars to which it is so clearly beholden.
