Republican U.S. Senator ruins NOM's morning; Rob Portman comes out for marriage equality

by Jeremy Hooper

The huge news of the morning:

Screen Shot 2013-03-15 At 7.13.12 AmYou probably recognize Sen. Rob Portman from his tireless campaigning for Mitt Romney in 2012. He was even on the short list to be Romney's running mate.

He's been a leading Republican voice on economic issues for four decades.

Now, the prominent Ohio conservative will be known for something else: reversing his hardline position against gay marriage.

Portman is not up for reelection until 2016, giving other Republicans plenty of time to also embrace the inevitable rather than flog this one rational man for doing right by his country, family (Sen. Portman has a gay son), and constitution.
