While we wait for inclusive ENDA, trans community gains equal access to soapy TV plotlines

by Jeremy Hooper

Unknown-15The teen- and twenties-skewing CW network has set in motion the production of a drama about a transgender teen. Deadline reports:

Written by Brooklyn-based writer-playwright Kyle Jarrow and executive produced by Michael London (Milk), ZE is described as a raw, quirky family drama about a FTM (female-to-male) teen and his family. A personal choice takes on controversial public significance when a Texas teenager announces she is transgender and will be living life as a boy.

About time! And with the far-right ratcheting up the attacks against transgender people, they can just pull the antagonists' lines directly from the American Family Association.

No word on casting. But here's a "radical" idea, mainstream TV: how about an actual transgender actor?
