Audio: Another Phil Robertson clip; 'Whether you're a prostitute or a homosexual or a murderer or a rapist, drug addict...'

by Jeremy Hooper

He's quite fond of lumping gays with all kinds of nastiness, this Duck Dynasty guy. In a recent interview promoting both his book and his A&E show, Phil Robertson advised Christians that they needed to bring the "salt" out of the churches and into the culture so that they target murderers, rapists, prostitutes, addicts—and gays. **FULL INTERVIEW: Exclusive Interview with Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson [Vimeo]

Let me repeat, for those who refuse to listen: I 100% support his right to say all of these things. But when he compares people like me to murderers and rapists—and let's please be grown ups and admit that he is, in fact, deliberately linking us to them—I do not support his freedom from scrutiny, pushback, or consequential business decision.

The First Amendment grants us freedom of speech, apart form government interference; the First Amendment does not grant us freedom to rake millions from a reality show regardless of how we act during our press appearances on behalf of the program! Speech goes both ways.
