Life after Westboro: Libby Phelps Alvarez poses for 'No H8'

by Jeremy Hooper

Lauren Drain, whose family moved into the notorious Westboro Baptist Church when she was a kid, posed for a picture last year. But as far as I know, Libby Phelps Alvarez has just become the first of Fred Phelps' grandchildren (many of whom have fled the church of their youth) to pose for a "No H8" pic:

In a weird way, I feel like the Phelps grandkids are part of my younger years. They used to condemn me, personally and viciously. Now I chat with several of them, happily and easily. It's one of the more satisfying parts of this professional journey.
