Eliminate Discri-Maine-ation [UPDATE]

by Jeremy Hooper

The AP is reporting that the Maine Senate has rejected a bid to send Gov. John Baldacci's proposed anti-discrimination bill out to referendum, as well as a follow-up amendment designed to weaken the measure. Instead, the Senate has sent the bill to the House where it will continue it's journey o' tolerance.

If the bill passes, Maine will be the last New England state to embrace a gay rights law. (Although the only one whose name is monosyllabic!)

***UPDATE: The House has passed the bill. It now must go through another round of votes on it's journey to become a law.
