Hawkeye State Hi-Jinks

by Jeremy Hooper

In Iowa today, a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage passed the House by a 54-44 vote.

But don't fret Iowa homo-gays -- the bigotry is expected to bite the big one in the Senate, where the partisan split is an even 25-25.

I mean, sure you could be bitter about the fact that the majority of your State Reps support discrimination and view you as a second-class citizen. But why hold on to the negativity? Instead, take comfort in the fact that just enough liberal Senators managed to win election, giving tolerance in your home state a fighting chance.

In these trying times, the possibility of equality by even the slimmest of margins must be viewed as a victory.
