Bob Knight: Nascar fans favor marriage bans

by Jeremy Hooper

"Concerned Woman" Bob Knight has some thoughts on this week's "marriage rally" in North Carolina, and how the nearby "Nascar Day" might have benefited the anti-gay crowd. Listen in as Mr. Knight speaks to fellow "Concerned Woman" Martha Kleder:

Martha Kleder: Bob, the fact that [the anti-gay marriage rally] coincided with "Nascar Day" seems like a wonderful opportunity to get information about marriage and this legislation to people to whom it seems to matter, the traditional Nascar crowd.

Bob Knight: Yea I'm wondering about that, how many people drifted over. It was only a couple hundred of feet away from the marriage rally, I betcha some of the Nascar people came over 'cause it's right up their alley. You look at a guy like Joe Gibbs, coach of the Washington Redskins, who has a racing team in Nascar...very pro-family, devout Christian man, who would be with us 100% on this I'm sure, and I think he is indicative of the type of people in the Nascar culture, you might say. They're very pro-family, very patriotic. They don't think one-sex marriage is the way to go (snicker), and maybe we were beneficiaries rather than having it detract from our rally.

This is what they don't get - gay marriage is no more their issue than who wins at Talladega is ours. I can guarantee that I find watching cars drive around in circles at speeds greater than 200 mph just as foreign as these folks find 'mo marriage; but it poses nary a threat to my existence. It's very simple - one doesn't have the right to deny another of their happiness just because they find that person weird or because they personally do not agree with their lives.

If you'd like to hear more anti-gay ramblings, including Mr. Knight describing North Carolina's proposed amendment as a "good marriage amendment" because it "takes out civil unions as well," then go here and have a listen.
