MD: Ehrlich signs hate crimes measure, retains semi-moderate status
Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich has signed into law a measure that adds sexual orientation and gender identity to the state's existing hate crimes laws. Ehrlich's gay-friendly action comes just a week after he vetoed legislation that would have allowed gays to make medical decisions for their incapacitated partners, among other rights.
So Maryland homo-gays, should your partner get gay bashed (god forbid), in the eyes of the state the perpetrator would have as much right to visit your poor hospitalized sweetie as you. HOWEVER, thanks to this new measure, they are more likely to be jailed for the attack. Take comfort in that.
