Blow to discrimination in the Cherokee Nation
The Judicial Appeals Tribunal of the Cherokee Nation has ruled that tribe member Todd Hembree has no standing to sue and was not harmed by legal recognition of a lesbian couple's same-sex marriage. Hembree had sued the two lassies, Dawn McKinley and Kathy Reynolds, after they got hitched in '04, preventing their marriage certificate from being filed. However, since and inspired by their wedding day, the Nation's Tribal Council has approved language to define marriage as between one man and one woman, causing all sorts of confusion as to what options are now available to the ladies.
One option not available: Ease.
