Harlem revival calls for 'no 'mo discrimination'
Yesterday in Harlem, a group of religious leaders and politicians held a revival meeting to counter the anti-gay rhetoric being espoused by the pastors of some conservative black churches.
At the event, Manhattan Borough President (and NYC mayoral candidate) C. Virginia Fields reportedly compared the treatment of homosexuals today to "the discrimination she faced growing up black in the old South," and Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohandas Gandhi, equated the situation to the "repression once experienced by nonwhite citizens in South Africa."
Here's hoping that someday, if we're really lucky, we too will have the opportunity to draw from our past unpleasant memory banks as we join the fight for another group's political and personal struggles. When life dishes out an unfortunate set of circumstances, one must look to the potential goal of future speaking gigs to get them though their trying days.
Dear left-handed citizens of 2045...
