NC county's GOP chair consults fear-mongering thesaurus, composes missive

by Jeremy Hooper

According to NC's Daily Advance, the Republican Party Chairman of Currituck County, North Carolina, Jim Edsall, has sent a letter to State Senate President Pro-Tem Marc Basnight, in which he urges him to support the addition of an anti-gay marriage amendment to the state's constitution. The paper quotes Edsall's letter as deceptively saying, in part:

"With a majority of North Carolinians holding conservative values and beliefs, it is unconscionable for you and the Democrat majority to continue to allow traditional marriage to remain under such a clear threat by refusing to allow a vote on a traditional marriage amendment."

Edsall's thoughts on the "unconscionable" nature of aggressively stigmatizing and discriminating against a minority population fighting to achieve equal footing, however, is noticeably absent from the GOP chair's communicative note. Must have been an oversight.
