Bruning files brief, which to put it briefly, stinks
Yesterday in a Nebraska court of appeals, state attorney general Jon Bruning (pic.) filed a 110-page brief arguing that Judge Joseph Bataillon was wrong to strike down the state's constitutional marriage ban, when he did so this past May. Though we do hear that Bruning used like a 76-point font in the document, so don't be too impressed with the brief's lack of brevity.
The AP quotes Bruning's lengthy brief as saying that the ban "does not violate any person's freedom of expression or association," though personally we think that the freedom of the state's homo couples to express their love through a legally recognized association is actually quite violated by the bullsh*t. Trampled upon, even!
Annoyingly, even if the judge disagrees with Bruning and his brief and ultimately sides with the gay rights supporters, queer nuptials in the state will still be barred by state law. Though for now, let's simply fight for the right to not have Cornhusker queer marriage deemed super-duper, constitutionally illegal. Baby steps, my friends.
