Mich. judge rules in favor of partner benefits; 'activist' label expected by day's end
Going against an earlier legal opinion issued by the state Attorney General, Michigan Circuit Court Judge Joyce Draganchuk (pic.) ruled Tuesday that public universities and governments can offer health insurance to the partners of queer employees without being in violation of the state Constitution. This ruling is of particular note, since Michigan has one of those new-fangled amended Constitutions that basically bars homosexuals from even daydreaming about walking down an aisle. So congrats, Michigan homo-gays!
Responding to the decision in dueling mouthpiece fashion, a spokesperson for Dem. Gov. Jennifer Granholm tells the AP that "the legal cloud has been lifted," while Rep. Attorney General Cox's press communicator says "a disappointed Cox was reviewing the ruling and considering whether to appeal." Responsively responding to these responses, a spokesperson for Good As You said, "Uhm, yea..not to be a nudge, but can you tell me when I get paid? It's been like three months now and nary a check have I seen. Actually, you know what -- screw this. Nobody cares what I say anyway -- I'm outta here!"
